35. How is circumcision a type of baptism?

Circumcision is a physical operation in which the foreskin of the penis is removed in a surgical operation. It was instituted by God as a token of the covenant between Himself and Abraham. During baptism, a similar operation takes place whereby the body of sins in flesh is removed in a spiritual operation (Colossians 2:11 & 12). That is why on the day of Pentecost, Peter proclaimed the baptism is for “…the remission (i.e. removal) of sins…”

Colossians 2:11
11. In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.
12. Buried with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him from the dead.
