What is the Sabbath?

A. The Sabbath is the day of rest for children of Israel (Jewish people). The Last day of the week. Absolutely nothing was to be done on this day and if you did, in the Old Testament you could be stoned to death. However when Jesus came He fulfilled the law and revealed that the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

Genesis 2:2- 3 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      3. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it : because that in it he had rested fr0m all his work  which God created and made.

Exodus 34:21 Six days shalt thou work, but on the seventh day shalt thou rest: in earing time and in harvest shall thou rest.

Exodus 35:2-3 Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.                                                                  3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.

Mark 2:27-27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:                                                                                                                                                                                                   28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
